A German Christmas Market

About

The German Christmas Market is a project of Sister Cities of Nashville, a local non-profit supporting partnerships and exchanges between Nashville and its international sister cities. The project is an outgrowth of an active sister-city relationship with Magdeburg, Germany, which hosts its own Christmas Market during the holidays and initiated the vision of providing this annual event for Nashville.

Thanks to the kind support of the city and our neighbors, the German Christmas Market has secured an optimal location in the Hall of Fame Park in downtown Nashville, bordered by the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Hilton Hotel, and the Sommet Center. The Christmas Market will be open from Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas Eve with an anticipated total attendance of 50,000, including Nashvillians and those visiting the city as one of the top ten holiday travel destinations in the country.

The German Christmas Market consists of about 25 traditional wooden stands for vendors serving German food and drink specialities (bratwurst, gingerbread cake, fruit, nuts, pastries, other baked goods, beer, and glühwein), selling authentic German handcrafts (wooden Christmas ornaments, nutcrackers, and puppets), and providing live craft demonstrations. Along with these permanent features, the Christmas Market will host a daily schedule of holiday music and entertainment, including school and community groups as well as professional performers.

The goal of the German Christmas Market is to bring a unique holiday experience to Nashville while also providing a festive site downtown for many of the city's seasonal activities and celebrations. Following the Sister Cities mission of "connecting the world locally," Nashville's German Christmas Market is designed to combine a great German tradition with the best of Nashville during the holidays.
